Activity 17: 
RCMP or Local Police Visit (optional) 


Purpose

  • To visit the local RCMP or local police and familiarize the participants with its location   

  • To familiarize participants with local police officers while learning about how to deal with danger in their neighbourhood or on their travel routes

Location

  • Requires travelling to the nearest RCMP or Local Police station 

Things to Observe

  • Participants are asking questions.

  • Participants are respectfully listening.

    Instructional Considerations 

    • If the officer does not address the questions that should be discussed then you should ask questions to guide the presenter to discuss the required information.  


Guidelines

  • If an officer is available to speak to the participants, ask them to discuss: 

    • How participants can safely move away from strangers who approach them  

    • How to address bullying in the community 

    • How a community constable helps out pedestrians if they are in danger 

    • How a community constable helps prevent danger from happening  

  • Remind the participants to act respectfully and to use proper listening skills.  

  • Remind the participants to raise their hands if they have a question or comment.


Debrief  

  • Allow participants the opportunity to ask the officer/ constable questions and to thank them for their time. 

  • Discuss with the crew what they can do if approached by someone who does not appear to be safe.
